How to start a new WhatsApp chat

A new WhatsApp chat is a conversation with a contact who may not be in your inbox yet. In AvenPing, open Messages, click New chat, then pick a contact from the A–Z directory or create one with name and phone number.

Prerequisites

Step-by-step

  1. Open Messages
Sign in at app.avenping.com and click Messages.

  2. Click New chat
Click New chat in the conversation list (icon tooltip is also New chat). The empty state heading is New chat.

  3. Pick a contact
Contacts are listed A–Z from your directory. Click a name to open the thread. Use search if the list is long.

  4. Create a contact if they are missing
If the number is not in Contacts, create it (name and phone in international format) and open the new conversation.

  5. Send the first message
If the 24-hour window is closed, send an approved template. See How to send and reply to WhatsApp messages in the inbox.

TIP

Add frequent numbers in Contacts first so New chat stays a pick-from-list flow.

FAQ

Can I message a number that is not a contact?

Create the contact first (name + phone), then open the chat. WhatsApp delivery still requires a valid opted-in number.

Why is the composer locked after I open the chat?

The 24-hour customer service window is closed until they message you. Use Templates from the paperclip.

New chat shows no contacts

Import or add contacts first. See How to add a contact.
