How to create a WhatsApp authentication template

A WhatsApp authentication template sends a one-time code so a user can verify themselves. In AvenPing, set Category to Authentication, skip header and footer, add one Copy Code button, then wait for Meta approval.

Prerequisites

Step-by-step

  1. Open Create Template
Sign in at app.avenping.com. Open Broadcast → Templates and click Create Template. Choose the line if you have more than one.

  2. Set Category to Authentication
Enter Template Name and Language. Set Category to Authentication. Optional: click Verification Rules. Authentication has no Marketing Template Type picker.

  3. Skip Header and Footer
Header is not supported. If you switch to Authentication after adding a header, AvenPing clears it and shows that header is not supported. Footer options are hidden for this category.

  4. Write Body
Fill Body (Required). Use a placeholder such as {{1}} for the code. If body is empty, preview can fall back to Your verification code is {{1}}. Add a realistic example value for the variable.

  5. Add one Copy Code button
Under Buttons, click Add Button. Authentication allows only Copy Code, and the maximum is 1. Enter Copy Code Value (sample code, max 15 characters). Quick Reply, URL, and Phone Number are not available.

  6. Submit and wait for Meta approval
Check the live preview, then click Create Template. Wait until Status is APPROVED before you send the template.

WARNING

Promotional copy in Authentication often gets rejected. Keep the body to verification only. See Verification Rules in the create modal.

TIP

Keep names lowercase with underscores (for example login_otp). Provide a realistic Copy Code Value sample.

FAQ

Can an Authentication template have a header image?

No. Headers are not allowed. AvenPing clears header fields when Category is Authentication.

How many buttons can I add?

One Copy Code button only. The form sets the limit to 1 and does not offer other button types.

Is Authentication the same as Marketing Lite?

No. Marketing Lite is an AvenPing category submitted to Meta as Utility for light marketing. Authentication is for one-time codes only.
