How to enable or disable a WhatsApp chatbot ​

Disable pauses matching without deleting the chatbot. In Automation → Chatbots, open the row menu and click Disable or Enable. The Disabled column shows Enabled or Disabled. Drafts cannot be toggled.

Prerequisites ​

  • A saved (non-draft) chatbot. See How to build a WhatsApp chatbot.
  • Chatbots available on your plan. Re-enabling can fail if you are over the chatbot limit.
  • Unique triggers when enabling: no shared start keywords with another enabled chatbot; only one All messages and one First-time client chatbot can be enabled.

Step-by-step ​

  1. Open Chatbots
    Sign in at app.avenping.com. Open Automation → Chatbots. Filter by line if you have more than one.

  2. Check the Disabled column
    Each row shows Enabled (green) or Disabled (red). That column is status only.

  3. Disable a live chatbot
    Open the three-dot menu. Click Disable. The badge becomes Disabled. The chatbot stays in the table and can still be edited. It no longer matches inbound messages.

  4. Enable it again
    Open the menu and click Enable. If another enabled chatbot already uses the same keywords, All messages, or First-time client, enable fails until you disable that chatbot or change triggers. Plan limits can also block enable.

  5. Prefer disable over delete
    Use Disable when you might turn the chatbot back on. Use Delete only when you want it removed. See How to delete a WhatsApp chatbot.

Enable / Disable is hidden for Draft rows. Save the chatbot first.

FAQ ​

Does disable delete the canvas?

No. The chatbot remains in the table. Edit still opens the builder. Matching stays off until Enable.

Why did Enable fail?

Typical causes: duplicate start keywords on another enabled chatbot, another enabled All messages or First-time client chatbot, or the plan chatbot limit. Change triggers or disable the other chatbot, then try again.

Can I disable from the builder?

No. Toggle status from the Chatbots table row menu, not from Save in the builder.
