How to register and verify a WhatsApp phone number
After Connect WABA, a number may sit as Unregistered (
PENDING_REGISTRATION) or Unverified (PENDING_VERIFICATION). In AvenPing, register it with Register Number and a 6-digit PIN, then verify with an OTP using Verify number.
Prerequisites
- A connected WhatsApp Business Account. See How to connect WhatsApp Business to AvenPing.
- The 6-digit two-step PIN for that number (Meta/WhatsApp), or access to SMS/voice for the OTP.
Step-by-step
Open Active lines
Go to Settings → WhatsApp. Review phones under Active lines and the inventory list.Register an Unregistered number
Status Unregistered means register with Meta before you assign the number to a line. Open the register modal and click Register Number. If asked, enter the 6-digit PIN (Enter 6-digit PIN) or Enter PIN Manually.Verify an Unverified number
Status Unverified means request an OTP from Meta. Open the verify modal. Request a code (SMS or voice), enter Verification code, then click Verify number.Activate the verified number
Assign it to an empty line slot. See How to activate WhatsApp lines and set a primary line.
WARNING
Do not guess the two-step PIN. A wrong PIN can lock the number with Meta. Use the PIN you set during embedded signup.
FAQ
What do Unregistered and Unverified mean?
Unregistered still needs Meta registration (PIN). Unverified is registered but needs the OTP. Copy in the product explains both.
The OTP never arrives
Try the other method (SMS vs voice), wait, and confirm the number can receive Meta codes. Country routing delays are common.
Can I skip verification and still send campaigns?
No. Activate only after the number is registered and verified. Empty slots cannot send.
