How to add custom fields to WhatsApp contacts

Contact attributes are custom fields (city, plan, birthday) stored on each WhatsApp contact. In AvenPing, open Settings → Attributes, click Add Attribute, then use those fields in campaigns, events, and chatbot Set Attribute nodes.

Prerequisites

Step-by-step

  1. Open Attributes
Sign in at app.avenping.com. Click Settings, then Attributes. The heading is Attributes. The subtitle is Manage your contact attributes.

  2. Add an attribute
Click Add Attribute. In the Add Attribute modal, enter Attribute Name and Type: Text, Number, or Date. Click Add. Cancel closes without saving. Empty lists show No attributes yet.

  3. Edit or delete a field
Use Search attributes… to find a row. Click Edit to open Edit Attribute, change the name or type, then Update. Click Delete to remove the field definition. Confirm you still need stored values before deleting.

  4. Set values on contacts
On Contacts, click Create Contact or Edit, then Add Attribute, choose the field, and enter Value. You can also map file columns during import with Add attribute. Plan limits apply; the button may read Attribute Limit Reached.

  5. Use attributes in campaigns, events, and chatbots
In Broadcast → Campaigns, filter contacts by attribute and map template variables to attribute values. Events that run on a calendar date need a Date attribute (for example birthday). In Automation → Chatbots, drop a Set Attribute node to write a value during a conversation.

TIP

Use short, consistent names (city, plan, renewal_date). Pick Date for event triggers and Number for numeric filters. Create the field in Settings → Attributes before bulk import when you want a shared definition.

FAQ

How many attributes can I create?

The cap depends on your plan. Import and contact forms show Attribute limit reached or Attribute Limit Reached when you are at the cap. Free is 3, Basic is 5, Premium is 10, and Enterprise is 15.

Where are attributes used besides Contacts?

Campaigns (audience filters and template variables), Events (a Date attribute such as birthday), and chatbot Set Attribute nodes that write a value during a chat.

Can I add an attribute only on one contact?

Yes. On Create New Contact or Edit Contact, choose Add new attribute, set New attribute name, Type, and Value. That still counts toward the plan limit. Managing names in Settings → Attributes keeps the list consistent for the whole team.
