How to edit a WhatsApp chatbot

To change an existing WhatsApp chatbot, open Automation → Chatbots, find the row, and click Edit. Change the Start trigger or components, then Save. To rename only, click the name in the table.

Prerequisites

Step-by-step

  1. Open Chatbots
Sign in at app.avenping.com. In the left sidebar, open Automation → Chatbots. Use Search chatbots... if the list is long.

  2. Filter by WhatsApp line
If you have more than one active line, use the platform filter in the table header. Choose a line or All. New chatbots still use the default create line.

  3. Open Edit
Click the row menu (three dots) and choose Edit. That opens the builder. A Draft badge on the name means unsaved builder edits exist; Edit opens that draft.

  4. Change the canvas
Select the Start node to change Trigger on, keywords, or Platform (when you have multiple lines). Drag components from Components, connect handles, and configure the selected node in the right sidebar.

  5. Save the chatbot
Click Save. Editing a saved chatbot writes immediately — there is no Save Flow name modal. Watch for Saving chatbot... then Chatbot saved successfully!. Validation errors block save; the button reads Save (N issues) until you fix them.

  6. Rename without opening the builder
In the table Name column, click the chatbot name, type the new name, then click away. Empty names are rejected. Success toast: Chatbot renamed successfully.

TIP

Use Test on Mobile after structural edits, then Close Simulation. See How to test a chatbot in the mobile simulator.

WARNING

Request Address is not in Components. It is temporarily disabled because of Facebook API issues with address messages.

FAQ

Why is there no Save Flow modal when I edit?

The Save Flow modal (field Chatbot Name) appears on first save of a new chatbot. Editing an existing chatbot saves the current name and canvas directly.

Can I duplicate instead of editing?

Yes. The row menu includes Duplicate. The Duplicate Chatbot modal asks for unique Trigger Keywords. Duplicate keywords open Duplicate Triggers Detected.

What do the table columns mean?

Name, Phone Number, Steps, Disabled (Enabled or Disabled), Date, and Triggers. The Disabled column is status only — use Enable or Disable in the row menu to change it.
