How to update WhatsApp contact details
You change a contact’s name, number, or attributes so future WhatsApp messages use the right details. In AvenPing, open Contacts, open the row menu, click Edit, then save with Update Contact.
Prerequisites
- At least one contact. See How to add a WhatsApp contact.
- Permission to edit contacts (agents need the matching Contacts permission).
- A valid E.164 number if you change Phone Number.
Step-by-step
Find the contact
Sign in at app.avenping.com. Click Contacts. Use Search contacts... or column filters to locate the row.Open Edit Contact
Open the row’s action menu (three dots) and click Edit. The modal title is Edit Contact. The subtitle is Update contact information.Change Name, Phone Number, or Attributes
Update Name * and Phone Number * under Basic Information. In Attributes, click Add Attribute to add a value, or use the trash icon (Remove attribute) to drop a row. New attributes use Type: Text, Number, or Date.Save with Update Contact
Click Update Contact. While saving, the button shows Updating.... Cancel discards the form. Past inbox history is unchanged; later campaigns and chats use the new values.Confirm the row

TIP
Keep phone numbers in E.164. An invalid value shows Please enter a valid phone number and will not save.
FAQ
Does editing a contact change old WhatsApp messages?
No. Saved chats stay as they were. Name, number, and attributes apply to future inbox replies, campaigns, and chatbot Set Attribute updates.
Can I edit labels in the Edit Contact modal?
No. Apply labels (optional) appears only when creating a contact. After create, assign labels from the Labels column on Contacts, or use bulk Add Label / Remove Label.
What if Update Contact is missing?
The row menu shows Edit only if you can edit contacts. Agents without that permission will not see it.
