How to import WhatsApp contacts from a spreadsheet
A bulk import loads many opted-in numbers into your WhatsApp list at once. In AvenPing, open Contacts, click Import, choose CSV File, Excel Sheet, TXT List, or Google Sheet, map columns, then import.
Prerequisites
- An AvenPing account and a connected WhatsApp line. See How to connect WhatsApp Business to AvenPing.
- A file with a header row and at least one data row (CSV or Excel). TXT lists use one phone number per line.
- Phone numbers in international format. For a single contact instead, see How to add a WhatsApp contact.
Step-by-step
Open Import
Sign in at app.avenping.com. Click Contacts. Click Import and pick a source: CSV File, Excel Sheet, TXT List, or Google Sheet. The modal title is Import Contacts (or Import from CSV, Import from Excel, Import from TXT, Import from Google Sheet).Upload the file or connect Google Sheet
For CSV or Excel, drag and drop or click Click to browse. Optional: Download the Download CSV template or Download Excel template (columns Name, Phone Number). For TXT, use one number per line. For Google Sheets, click Connect Google Sheet, sign in, and pick a spreadsheet whose first row is headers.Map database fields to columns
For CSV, Excel, and Google Sheets, map each Database field to a file column. Name and Phone Number are required. Use Skip this field to ignore a column. Click Add attribute to map extra columns to new attributes (Attribute name, Attribute type: Text, Number, or Date). TXT lists auto-map phone numbers. Meta User ID (BSUID) is internal and is not a mappable import field.Apply labels and preview
Under Apply labels (optional), click Select labels to tag every successfully imported contact. Check Preview (first 3 rows). Then click Import N contacts. Cancel closes without importing.Review Import complete
Wait while the modal shows Importing contacts and batch progress. On Import complete, you see Imported and Failed counts. Open Failed contacts for Row, Name, Phone, and Reason. Click Done.
TIP
Keep Name and Phone Number mapped. Invalid numbers are listed as failed and are not imported.
FAQ
Can I import Meta User ID (BSUID) instead of a phone number?
No. Import maps Name, Phone Number, and optional attributes only. BSUID is internal. Use international phone numbers in the file. API sends can still use recipient (BSUID) — see Messages.
Which file types can I import?
CSV File (.csv), Excel Sheet (.xlsx or .xls), TXT List (.txt, one number per line), and Google Sheet. The import menu only offers Google Sheet when you are not in agent mode.
What if some rows fail?
Import complete lists failed rows with a Reason such as Invalid phone number. Successful rows stay in Contacts. You can fix the file and import again, or add a single row with How to add a WhatsApp contact.
Can I apply labels during import?
Yes. After the file loads, use Apply labels (optional) and Select labels. Selected labels apply to every successfully imported contact. Create labels in Settings → Labels first. See How to organize WhatsApp contacts with labels.
